The Flying Scotsman (film, 15, 1hr 37mins, 2007)

The owner of a struggling bicycle shop, Graeme Obree (Jonny Lee Miller) wins fame as a racing cyclist.  Though his wife Anne (Laura Fraser) and friend Malky (Billy Boyd) give him unwavering support, Graeme faces huge obstacles in his quest: his struggle with mental illness and his lack of sponsorships being just a few.  Nevertheless, Graeme, using a homemade bicycle dubbed "Old Faithful," sets out in pursuit of his dream.

Graeme Obree: Rewriting Cycling's Rulebook

Graeme Obree is an author, commentator and ex-professional cyclist. He exploded to prominence on 17 July 1993 when he broke the UCI World Hour Record on the bike he hand built.  His record was broken a week later but Obree went on to regain the record and to become the UCI world pursuit champion, twice. His acclaimed training manual, "The Obree Way" is available from Bloomsbury Sport and his autobiography "The Flying Scotsman" inspired the film.

Graeme comes to Eastwood Park Theatre to discuss his life and career, followed by a Q&A session.

"A maverick; a one-off; simply 'a genius'"  Sir Chris Hoy
