Skip permits

Under Section 85 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, anyone depositing a builder’s skip on any carriageway, footway, verge, remote footway, or cycleway, requires permission from East Renfrewshire Council, the Roads Authority.

From 1st October 2008 it will be the responsibility of the skip hire companies to apply for a skip permit. There is a charge of £25 per skip for up to 28 days. Applications for permits must be made at least 3 working days in advance and can be made using the online form. In addition to the standard conditions for use of builder’s skips that must be followed, specific conditions may apply depending on the location of the proposed skip. Application for a skip permit may be denied if the proposed location is deemed unsatisfactory or if the proposed location and timing clashes with any other proposed works.

Skips deposited on a road without the prior permission and/ or not in compliance with the conditions of the permission of East Renfrewshire Council will be subject to a fixed penalty notice of £120.
