Supported and sheltered housing
Supporting People is a government programme which gives individuals in all types of accommodation and tenure an opportunity to have their housing support needs assessed. Housing support aims to assist people to achieve, sustain and maintain independent living in their own community.
If you are already a sheltered housing resident or are entering sheltered housing for the first time, you will receive housing support services directly from your warden or support workers. People in sheltered housing cannot opt out of the services provided by Supporting People.
The services that Supporting People will fund are as follows:

Housecare: arranging repairs, adaptations, servicing of appliances, assisting with cleaning and furnishing the home.
Managing money: budget and debt management, accessing benefits.
Lifeskills: assisting with preparation of food, appointments, dealing with correspondence, using domestic appliances, using telephone, dealing with neighbours.
Out and about: using other services, facilities, shopping and errands.
Socialising: organising social events, maintaining contact with family and friends.
Resettlement: adapting to more independent living, moving home, moving from hospital or supported accommodation.
Supporting People does not cover personal care or special counselling. If you require these services, they can be provided by social work or health services. Please contact your local social work office or GP for details.
