Some children need extra support to help them learn. This might be because of reasons such as medical conditions, family circumstances, bullying, language and communication disorders or sensory impairment. These needs can be short or long-term.

Schools should have systems in place to identify additional support needs and to respond to requests for assessment from parents. In most instances, schools will be able to identify children and young people with additional support needs through their arrangements for assessing learning, and for monitoring the educational progress of children and young people.

For children with the most extensive needs, a co-ordinated support plan will be prepared to co-ordinate provision between East Renfrewshire and other relevant agencies.
