Performance management
Purpose
The Council operates a devolved personnel structure with a small strategic Corporate Personnel function. The key purpose of Corporate Personnel is to enable Council management to enhance the individual and collective contributions of people to the short and long term success of the Council.
The main responsibilities of Corporate Personnel are to provide strategic direction and support for the Council in terms of personnel policy development. This covers a wide range of issues but can be broadly categorised as including employee relations, training and development and health and safety.
People
The Deputy Chief Executive is the Council's principal adviser in all areas relating to People Management and ensures the promotion and development of good professional personnel services within all departments of the Council.
Health and Safety
Working closely with council departments, the aim of this service is to make sure that health and safety is high priority across the council.
The main issues for the health and safety team relate to safeguarding the well being of council employees and council property, which of course has a knock-on effect for council customers using our premises.
Close liaison with the national Health and Safety Executive means the council stays in touch with current health and safety legislation, and has a link with the executive if any problems happen.
The health and safety team regularly carries out training for council employees to keep them up-to-date with legislation and good practice.
