Support for New Parents

Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP)
The CHCP is responsible for all health and social care services in East Renfrewshire. You'll find information on the main East Renfrewshire Council site, but you can also call Council Customer First on 0141 577 3001 if you have a specific enquiry.
The Getting Ahead Service
This project provides support for new families. Different groups come together to offer: social support, information, enjoyment and time out.
Groups include:
- Baby Talk: A group for mums who feel they need a bit of extra emotional and social support during their pregnancy.
- First Time Mums: A six week long group where mums meet other mums, gather information and get support from a Health Visitor. Group topics range from First Aid to Yoga
- Getting Ahead: An eight-week group for mums who are struggling to adjust to motherhood
- Time out: For mums who are struggling and feel they don’t get any time to themselves for the nice things. Meet other mums, learn new skills for managing your time and get a chance to chat to a Health Visitor.
- Walk and Talk: A pram walking group which meets in your local park. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and get a bit of exercise at the same time
- Wellbeing Group: Aimed at black and minority ethnic families, offering the chance to meet other families with young children, cope better with stress and find out about what’s going on the local community
- Young Mums R Us: For mums up to 25 years of age

Your local library
Community Libraries are a great place to bring children. There are books and story CDs for all reading ages and abilities, factual books for homework, study and hobbies and free Internet access. There are often special craft and author events and, for the younger members of the family, story times and bounce and tickle sessions.
And for the parent - many community libraries have a Practical Parenting collection in the children’s area. This selection of books and materials covers a range of parenting subjects, from handling toddler tantrums and talking about teenage issues, to children’s nutrition and exercise.
Community libraries that don’t have their own section will hold a selection of parenting titles.
