Walking and Jogging

Walking is one of the easiest activities to do – and it's free! You may be happy to go it alone, but being active can be much more fun with friends or family. Why not join a walking or jogging group or experience scenic walks in Barrhead and Neilston or lovely parks throughout East Renfrewshire.
Walking for Wellbeing
Short, weekly walks start from Rouken Glen Park and Barrhead Sports Centre. The groups are led by trained leaders, and walk at a pace all members find comfortable. You don't have to be superfit to join, though if you've got any health concerns have a quick word with your doctor.

Short Health Walks
There are around 15, marked scenic walks around Barrhead and Neilston that you can do either on your own or with a group of friends. Plan you route with the aid of the Short Health Walks leaflet (1.57mb)
Barrhead Heritage Trail Walks
These longer walks will let you get fit and learn about the history of the area at the same time. Check out the Barrhead Heritage Trail website for details.
Jogging Groups
Jogging in fun, free and simple. It can help you to lose weight, strengthen your heart and prevent the muscle and bone loss that occurs naturally with old age.
Some people prefer to run with a partner or in a group. This can help keep a good pace and has safety benefits. Why not join one of East Renfrewshire, there are now a number of hugely popular jogging groups. To find one near you call the Sports Development Department 0141 577 3193.
