If you have a disability it's possible you'll have additional needs when it comes to where you live.
This can mean finding a suitable home, getting help around the house or adapting your home to meet your needs. In this section you'll find links to people who can help decide what's right for you. You'll also find information on all the topics here on the main East Renfrewshire Council site
East Renfrewshire Council Independent Living Service
The Independent Living Service (ILS) works alongside disabled individuals who require help with their personal and domestic care and wish to employ staff directly or commission a care agency.
- The Independent Living Service can:
- Support advertising for and recruiting of the right personal assistant
- Provide information regarding employment rights and employer responsibilities
- Commissioning advice and care agency contacts
You can apply for help from this service if:
- you are 16 - 65 years old and have a physical disability
- you want to be more actively involved in day to day activities including the management of your care needs
- you get the middle rate or high rate of the Disability Living Allowance care component
- you are assessed as requiring personal care
- you are at risk of needing permanent care
- you live alone or with someone who cannot help you all of the time
- wish to move away from the support of informal carers

Disabled Persons Housing Service
The Disabled Persons Housing Service (DPHS) provides information and advice for disabled people in East Renfrewshire on benefits, financial assistance and how to apply for housing.
The DPHS will liaise with other agencies and groups to find the best solution for each client. It also holds a Housing Options Register, which categorises each property in East Renfrewshire according to accessibility, adaptations and suitability for adaptation.

McFarlane Homes
A parent driven charity offering support and accommodation for adults with a learning disability who may also have a physical disability. They have a home in Netherlee.

Adapt your home
If you or a member of your family has an illness or disability that makes daily life difficult, you may want to think about adapting your home. This can mean adding a ramp to the entrance way, handrails: showers and lever taps.
East Renfrewshire Occupational Therapy Team
The Occupational Therapy Team can help give advice on adapting your house. You do not need to be registered as disabled to qualify.
You can get in touch with the Team directly or a relative, carer or health professional can make a referral on your behalf. An Occupational Therapist will then assess your needs.

Care and Repair Renfrewshire
Care & Repair Renfrewshire provides free and confidential advice and assistance to older people and people with disabilities. The aim is to enable repairs, improvements and adaptations to be carried out, allowing people to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes comfortably and securely.
