When Your Child has a Disability

Being a parent isn’t easy; everyone needs extra help and support from time to time. If you’re the parent or carer of a child with a disability it can help to know that you’re not alone.

East Renfrewshire Council Occupational Therapy Team

The Occupational Therapy Team provides advice, guidance and support to children and their families who are affected by problems associated with physical disability. They can help with additional support needs assessments, placements in schools and home adaptions.

ParentLine Scotland is a confidential, telephone helpline for anyone caring for a child in Scotland. You can call about any problem, however big or small. The helpline service is provided by Children 1st.

Contact a Family

This site offers information and support to families with disabled children and can put you in touch with people in a similar situation to you. You can create your own profile or contact someone who is already listed, though to do this you will have to pay a small joining fee (at last check this was £5 per year).


Whizz Kidz

This website is dedicated to helping kids who have a disability become more independent.  The website has an adult free area ‘Kidz Zone’ where views and jokes are shared along with helpful information about education and social life.
