Animal fouling

East Renfrewshire Council has a dedicated dog warden service, covering the whole area. This service includes investigation of complaints regarding dog issues such as barking, issue of Fixed Penalty Notices regarding dog fouling offences and regular patrols of the area.

The rate of Fixed Penalty Notice is currently set at £40, which rises to £60 if not paid within the 28-day collection period. Offences are detailed in the Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act 2003.

The dog warden also uplifts stray dogs found when out on patrol and those handed in to local Police Offices and takes the dogs to the Hamilton SSPCA Centre. A stray dog register is maintained with the Council. If you have lost your dog please call the Team Leader (Public Health and Pollution) on 0141-577-3127 or e-mail to publichealth@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk to check if the dog warden has found your dog.

The Council currently has two citronella anti-bark dog collars on trial. These may assist in training dogs not to bark excessively. If you would like to learn more about the use of these collars please call the, Team Leader (Public Health and Pollution) on 0141-577-3127 or e-mail to publichealth@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk
