Supported and sheltered housing

Supporting People is a government programme introduced on 1 April 2003. It gives individuals, in all types of accommodation and tenure, an opportunity to have their housing support needs assessed. Housing support aims to assist people to achieve, sustain and maintain independent living in their own community. If you are already a sheltered housing resident or are entering sheltered housing for the first time, you will receive housing support services directly from your warden or support workers. People in sheltered housing cannot opt out of the services provided by Supporting People. Supporting People will not cover personal care or special counselling. If you require these services they can be provided by social work or health services. Please contact your local social work office or GP for details.
