Equipment and adaptations
We provide assistance to private homeowners to upgrade and maintain their properties. You may be eligible for help with the following type of work:
Alteration and enlargement
Replacement of unsafe electrical wiring
Installation of mains-powered smoke detectors
Provision of adequate heating systems
Provision of adequate thermal insulation
Works to make the house suitable for the accommodation, welfare or employment of a disabled occupant
If you live in a building in common ownership, our assistance can cover the installation of:
A fire door at the entrance to each house
A main-door entryphone system
In addition, the assistance may cover any works required to put the house into a good state of repair, including:
The replacement in a different material of any pipes, cisterns, taps or other equipment used for the supply of water to a house which are wholly or partly made of lead
Works intended to reduce exposure to radon gas
Works to provide a means of escape from fire in a house in multiple occupation, where a notice requiring such works has been served

- Q: I need a shower as I can't use the bath. Can I get help in fitting a shower at home?
- A: If you are finding a bath difficult to use, an Occupational Therapist can advise you on fitting a shower. You can contact our Occupational Therapy team to arrange a visit on (0141) 577 6100. If you own your home, you can apply for a Home Improvement Grant. More information is available from Care and Repair Renfrewshire on (0141) 812 4111.
