Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the best way to pay each month through your bank or building society. You remain in control and have the right to cancel at any time. You also have a money-back guarantee in case of error.
Payments come out of your account on the same day every month: either the 1st, 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th. For more information and a direct debit mandate form, contact us using the details above, or download the form from the bottom of this page. Our account details are:

Payment difficulties

If you do fall behind with your payments, we will send you a reminder asking you to bring your payments up to date within seven days.
If you do not do this, you may lose the ability to pay by instalments. Instead the full amount will have to be paid for that year within fourteen days.
If you do not pay the amount that you owe, we will take further action to recover the full amount. This may lead to Sheriff Officers becoming involved in recovering the debt. You will then have to pay any expenses involved, including an extra 10% of the amount you owe. In addition:
Your bank account may be arrested
Your earnings may be arrested
Deductions may be made from your Income Support and/or Job Seeker’s Allowance

- Q: How can I change the date of my Council Tax direct debit?
- A: You can pay by direct debit on either the 1st, 7th, 14th or 28th of each month. If you wish to change your date of payment, please contact our Council Tax team on (0141) 577 3002.
- Q: How can I arrange to pay my council tax by direct debit?
- A: You can call our Customer Services Officers on (0141) 577 3002 to ask for a mandate form to be sent to you. Alternatively you can download the Direct Debit mandate form from our "Account enquiries and payments" webpage. Complete and return this form to us as soon as you can.
- Q: How can I find out what dates my council tax is due on?
- A: All Council Tax instalments must be paid by the 1st of each month, unless you pay by direct debit. If you pay by direct debit, you can choose to pay on either the 1st, 7th, 14th or 28th of each month.
- Q: How do I get my Council Tax transferred to my new address?
- A: When you move permanently to a new address, you should tell us as soon as possible - ideally before you actually move, if you know the dates and your new address. Call our Customer Services Officers on (0141) 577 3002 and ask for a change of occupier form to be sent to you. Alternatively, you can download the "Moving home within East Renfrewshire" form from our publications directory. If you require any status discounts, let us know. Usually, you pay Council Tax from the date of entry to your new house.
