Standards and policies

Managed by Liz Currie, Development Manager, the development and strategy team provide a range of services to staff, tenants and other users of housing services as well as addressing strategic housing issues across both the public and private housing sectors.

Private Sector Housing comprises of 89% of all housing in East Renfrewshire.  With the introduction of the new Housing (Scotland) Act 2006, the Council now has a greater responsibility towards the maintenance and repair of Private Sector Housing and this now forms a significant part of the Housing Service.  The Private Sector team are also responsible for Private Landlord Registration.  Compulsory residential property landlord registration came into force on 30th April 2006 (revised from 31st March).  All landlords are required to register with the local authority in which they hold property by that date.

Strategy staff within the team are responsible for the development and implementation of the local housing strategy and homelessness strategy as well as for assessing particular housing needs and putting in place new housing and services to meet these needs.

Development staff in the team are responsible for the providing information to tenants and other residents on housing matters and for supporting improvements in the quality of the services offered by the council to its tenants through customer feedback, complaints monitoring, performance management and IT systems development. An important area of the team's work is tenant participation and the development and implementation of the East Renfrewshire Tenant Participation Strategy.
