Whether you are tracing your family tree or researching your local area, East Renfrewshire has lots of resources to help. We endeavour to preserve our heritage through our extensive collection, which includes old photographs, maps, newspapers and records. We also have a local history book collection and hold electoral registers and valuation rolls up to the present. We can also offer guidance on using the Internet to research the past.
These resources can be accessed at our two heritage centres at Giffnock Community Library and at Barrhead Community Library. Some resources are kept off-site but can be viewed by arrangement. There are small collections of local history resources available at all of our community libraries.
The Local History Librarian is based at Giffnock Heritage Centre and can be contacted in person, by phone or by e-mail. Look at the Heritage Centres page for details of how to get in touch.
Please explore the Local Studies, Museum and Archive Collections page to find out more about the rich collection of resources we have here in East Renfrewshire for your consultation.
