Community councils

Welcome to the Community Councils section of the East Renfrewshire website

The role of Community Councils
Under legislation, each local community in Scotland is entitled to petition their local authority to establish a Community Council in their area.  There are currently ten Community Councils in East Renfrewshire where local volunteers meet to represent their communities.

The Community Councils discuss the concerns of their local communities and make their views known to East Renfrewshire Council and other public bodies.  Community Councils have a statutory right to be consulted on local planning and licensing matters and may also carry out other activities that are in the general interest of their communities.
