Education maintenance award

The education maintenance allowance (EMA) is a weekly payment of up to £30 to help support a student in education beyond the school leaving age of 16. There are also two bonuses of £150 paid during the academic year if the student remains on their course and makes good progress with their learning.

To receive an EMA, students must have an acceptable learning agreement.  The weekly allowance awarded will depend on the financial circumstances of their household. The weekly allowance will be paid at three levels depending on household income.
