Every library offers free drop in broadband Internet access and e-mail. Library staff are fully trained to European Computer Driving licence (ECDL) standard and are happy to help you with the computers.

  • Q: Can I buy discarded library stock?
  • A: Library books and CDs (spoken word and music) which we no longer require are sold to the public. You can buy them at our regular booksales, and on www.amazon.co.uk throughout the year. We also have a list of publications which can be bought online from the same source. Ask your local library staff for details.
  • Q: Can I get a longer loan period on my library items to cover my holiday?
  • A: You can ask for your loans to be extended from the usual period of 3 weeks to a maximum of 5 weeks. We can also extend loans on items that have a hire charge, but this will incur further charges.
  • Q: Can I see backdated issues of newspapers at the library?
  • A: Yes, you can usually see recent issues of newspapers at your library. Older back issues for East Renfrewshire's local newspapers are available through Giffnock and Barrhead libraries. You can also access most UK papers via our online subscription to NewsUK. Ask your local library staff about how to use this resource.
  • Q: Can I send/receive a fax at my local library?
  • A: Yes, most libraries will let you send and receive faxes for a small fee, except for Netherlee and Uplawmoor libraries.
  • Q: Can I use the library if I'm just visiting?
  • A: Yes, you can use the library if you are only visiting the area. If you wish to borrow items, but only intend to visit once or for a limited period, then we may give you a temporary membership.
