Walking Group

  • Iain Brown, walk leader - 0141 580 1599.

  • Watch this space for details of a walk in late October.

  • (The last walk was on Sunday 27th July 2008 at 2 p.m. from the carpark at Brownside Farm, Paisley Road, Barrhead via the new tarmac pathway into Glenburn, then into Glenfield Road and over the hill to return to Brownside Farm - and was about an hour long).

Genealogy Group

  • Michael Pilliben, leader - 0141 580 9318.  Contact him to enrol in this group.

  • Wednesday 8th October 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Family History Centre within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glenburn Road, Paisley.  It is intended to have a group discussion to decide what the group wants to do to further its knowledge of genealogy before launching into specific searches using the resources at the FHS.  It would be to your benefit to bring along details of parts of your tree that you wish to research.  Help will be on hand, as some of the group members are advanced in genealogical matters.

  • Wednesday 5th November 2008 from 2 til 4p.m. at the Family History Centre, Glenburn Road Paisley.  It is hoped we will have a speaker on "Irish  Roots" for this meeting.  However that cannot be confirmed at present.  In the event of the speaker being unavailable, rest assured that there will be a subject presented.  The second part of the meeting will be  the use of the centre's resources, so once again remember to try to  bring something specific to trace.  (In order to comply with the wishes of the Church at the Family History Centre only diluted orange, hot chocolate and similar will be  available for refreshments.  A small donation for  this - and biscuits - would be appreciated on the day.)

  • 26th November 2008 from 2 til 3.30 p.m. at Barrhead Library.  John Smith has agreed to " volunteer " to give a presentation of his own genealogical research and findings.  The group will then have use of the computers in the room (4 it is understood) either for logging on to research sites or for printing information.  Any printing costs incurred are payable by the individual member to the Librarians directly.

  • A guided tour of the Mitchell Library is being arranged and once dates and times are available, that information will be circulated - and also published on this webpage.

  • It would be helpful to let Michael know if you intend to come to a particular meeting, as the number interested in genealogy has risen to 22.  A sub-group may need to be set up in the near future.
